How to Create a Soft, Brown Smokey Eye

By

First, start off with a naked eye.

As you can sadly see, my eyes are pretty much a "plain jane" color.

Since I'm on a teenage-girl budget, I don't use very many expensive products in my tutorials. Everything I use is interchangable and, for the most part, very affordable (except my occasional splurges). Many of the more professional makeup tutorials involve mass amount of complicated procedures, but mine are rather simple and I use many of what I call "makeup cheats" that allow me to get similar results without every little cosmetic product available.

Now, (here comes a cheat!) instead of using an eye primer, I prefer not to spend $15+ on an eyelid primer, and instead use a concealer as a base for my eyeshadows.

I consider this one of my "splurges", being the only product of MAC cosmetics that I use, but I'm sure and drugstore brand of concealer or foundation will do just fine.

Apply a thin layer of your concealer/foundation over your eyelid and very sparingly under your eyebrows and bottom lashes, this will help your eyeshadow colors "pop" more and stay on throughout the day!

Next, take out your eyeshadow colors.

This is a 88 palette from coastal scents, I use it almost everyday and it was VERY cheap, considering all the variety it comes with. If you don't have one of these, just grab out any eyeshadow colors you have, since I'm just playing around with color

Now, take a white or beige color that you can put on the inner corner of your eye, I will be using the last color on the bottom right shown in the picture above.

Apply white/beige on inner corner of your eye.

Sorry, not the best picture, but you get the idea.

Nice tutorial, but you forgot to fill in the eyebrows to really make it pop. Just a tip. Voted up.

Take a darker shade of brown, a chocolate shade would do very nicely, and apply it to the outerpart of your eye, take a blending brush and slowy make small circles where the medium shade of brown meets the darker one, blending them softly together.

From here, apply a more medium shade of brown, such as a lighter brown from the first couple of columns shown on my 88 palette. Apply this to the middle section of your eye.

Now, take a black colored eyeshadow and very lightly, dab it over the very outer corner of your eye. This is the tricky part, so make sure you go slowly. Once you've dabbed it on, take your blending brush and make small circles, extending the black color towards the direction of your eyebrows and ear, making it appear "smokey".

This is what it should look like after applying your beige, medium brown, and chocolate colored brown eyeshadow colors.

Now, take your first, original beige or white color and softly dab it in the inner corner of your bottom lashes, this will open up your eye and make your eyes look wider and fresher. Then, take your medium brown and apply it to the middle of your bottom lash line, following up with your chocolate brown color on the outside part of your lower lashes.

Apply your eyeliner and mascara, being careful to not smear and on your newly created masterpiece!
